Ferrous Ammonium Sulfate Crystal also known as Mohr's salt, is an inorganic chemical with the formula (NH 4 ) 2 Fe(SO 4 ) 2 (H 2 O) 6 . Ferrous Ammonium Sulfate is a 2:1:2 mixture of Ammonium, Iron, and Sulfate ions. It is a common laboratory reagent because it crystallizes easily and does not oxidize when exposed to air. Because it includes two different cations, Fe 2+ and NH 4+ , it is classified as a double salt of Ferrous Sulfate and Ammonium Sulfate. Due of its long shelf life and resistance to oxidation, this salt is the preferred source of Ferrous ions in analytical chemistry.
