About Magnesium Carbonate, USP Grade
Magnesium Carbonate, also known as Magnesium Carbonate Basic Pentahydrate, Magnesium Hydroxycarbonate Pentahydrate, Magnesium Hydroxy Carbonate Pentahydrate, and Carbonic Acid, is commonly available as basic pentahydrate of Magnesium(2+) Carbonate having the chemical formula 3MgCO3·Mg(OH)2·5H2O. It appears as a white, odorless, and tasteless powder, and is practically insoluble in water, and is insoluble in alcohol. It is soluble in dilute acids with effervescence. It’s a key source of Magnesium that can easily be converted to other Magnesium compounds, such as the oxide by heating (calcination).
