Sodium Thiosulfate, Anhydrous, Lab Grade

Sodium Thiosulfate, also known as Disodium Sulfurothioate, Sodium Hyposulfite, Disodium Sulfurothioate, Disodium Thiosulfate, and Sodium Thiosulphate, has the chemical formula Na 2 S 2 O 3 . Its anhydrous form appears as colorless to white hygroscopic crystals or crystalline powder with no odor. It is sparingly soluble in Water and insoluble in Alcohol at ambient conditions. When heated to around 300 o C, it undergoes decomposition emitting highly toxic fumes of Disodium Oxide and Sulfur Oxides. Commercially, it is produced by reacting by-product liquid of Sodium Sulfide synthesis with Sulfur Dioxide. Chemically pure or Laboratory reagents are the two terms often used to describe Lab Grade chemicals. Lab Grade chemicals do not meet any accepted quality or purity requirements such as the ACS Grade, the USP Grade, and the FCC Grade, despite their acceptable purity.
