Details
Bromocresol Purple Solution
Bromocresol Purple Solution, also known as 5,5’-Dibromo-o-cresolsulfonphthalein has the chemical formula C 21 H 16 Br 2 O 5 S. It appears as a dark red liquid, soluble in Alcohol and dilute Alkalis, and highly reactive to strong oxidizing agents. It is prepared by treating O-Cresol Red with Bromine in Glacial Acetic Acid. Bromocresol Purple Solution is generally used as a pH indicator and to measure serum albumin concentrations. It plays a role as an acid-base indicator, a dye, and a two-color indicator. This pH indicator changes the color of the solution from yellow (at Ph 5.2) to violet (at pH 6.8).
