About Zinc Stearate, USP/FCC Grade

Zinc Stearate, also known as Stearic Acid Zinc Salt, Octadecanoic Acid, Zinc Dioctadecanoate, and Zinc Distearate, has the chemical formula C 36 H 70 O 4 Zn or [CH 3 (CH 2 ) 16 COO] 2 Zn. It appears as a fine, white, soft powder with a slight, characteristic odor. It is insoluble in water, ethanol, and ether; soluble in benzene, acids, and common solvents when hot. It can be produced in a variety of different ways. Commonly, the Zinc Sulfate solution is reacted with the Sodium Stearate solution to produce Zinc Stearate, which is then washed and dried. A USP Grade chemical is the one that conforms to the criteria of the United States Pharmacopeia (USP). A substance that has received the USP Grade certification can be used in food, drug, or medical applications. Due to the high purity, our Zinc Stearate is a USP Grade chemical.
