Sodium Nitrate, Granular, Lab Grade

Sodium Nitrate, also known as Chile Salpeter, Niter, Soda Niter, Etabisulfite, and Cubic Niter, has the chemical formula NaNO 3 or NNaO 3 . It appears as colorless or white hygroscopic crystals or crystalline powder with no odor and slightly bitter taste. It is freely soluble in Water and Alcohol at ambient conditions. Upon heating, it can undergo decomposition producing Nitrogen Oxides and Oxygen, which can lead to fire hazards. On a lab scale, it is produced synthetically by reacting Nitric Acid with Sodium Carbonate.

Lab grade chemicals possess reasonable purity but do not comply with any official standard for quality or purity like the ACS Grade, the USP Grade, or the FCC Grade. The Lab Grade is also known as Laboratory Reagent (LR) and Chemically Pure (CP). It is highly recommended for educational institutes and research labs.
