Copper (Cupric) Nitrate Trihydrate, also known as Copper Dinitrate Trihydrate and Copper(2+) Nitrate Trihydrate, has the chemical formula Cu(NO 3 ) 2 -3H 2 O or CuH 6 N 2 O 9 . It appears as a dark blue hygroscopic crystalline powder with no odor. It is soluble in Water and Alcohol at ambient conditions. When heated to decomposition, it emits toxic fumes of Nitrogen Oxides and Copper Oxides. It is often produced by treating Copper or Copper Oxide with Nitric Acid followed by evaporation and crystallization.

The ACS grade is usually the same as the reagent grade, and it is ideal for analytical and research applications that require repeatable, consistent findings.
