Nitric Acid 67% Solution, Lab/Technical Grade

Nitric Acid (HNO 3 ) is a highly corrosive and strong mineral acid and it is distinguished by its potent antioxidant property. Like other Nitric Acid percentages of concentration, in its pure form appears colorless but, over time, tends to acquire a yellow cast due to the decomposition of the nitrate; it has a sour odor.

Nitric acid is commonly used in various industrial and laboratory applications due to its strong oxidizing properties.

Chemical Manufacturing: Nitric acid is a key ingredient in the production of fertilizers, explosives (such as dynamite), and various organic and inorganic nitrogen compounds.

Metal Processing: It is used in metal etching, metal cleaning, and metal polishing processes. Nitric acid can remove oxide layers from metals, making it useful in surface treatment and preparation.

Laboratory Applications: It is commonly employed in laboratory settings for analytical chemistry, where it is used as a reagent or solvent for various experiments and reactions.

Cleaning and Passivation: Nitric acid can be used to clean and passivate stainless steel and other metals, removing contaminants and creating a protective oxide layer on the surface.

Nitric Acid 67% Solution, Lab/Technical Grade is a solution of nitric acid (HNO3, CAS 7697-37-2), a strong mineral acid and a powerful oxidizing agent. It’s a clear to pale yellow liquid with a strong acrid odor, fully miscible in water, with a molecular weight of 63.013, a melting point of minus 41°C and a boiling point of 120.5°C. Listed impurity limits include chloride at a max of 10 ppm, iron at 10 ppm or less, and nitrogen compounds at a max of 100 ppm. The paperwork is easy to find too. Under Product Manuals you’ll see the Safety Data Sheet, Technical Data Sheet, lot specific Certificates of Analysis, and statements covering allergens, BPA, PFAS/PFOS, non-irradiation, TSE/BSE and animal testing.

You’ll find this acid in analytical chemistry work, metal etching and polishing, stainless steel cleaning and passivation, nitration of chemicals, dye intermediates, fertilizer production and nylon precursors. Here’s the catch. A strong oxidizer only helps if the paperwork is right and it arrives safely. The SDS, TDS and COAs are on this page, and we handle hazmat shipping from start to finish. Choose the 500 ml size, the 2.5 L size, a case or a full pallet, or set up Autoship so you never run short. Need volume or something custom? Request a quote . On budget, on time, every time.

Q: What is Nitric Acid 67% Solution used for? A: People use it as a reagent in analytical chemistry, for metal etching, cleaning and polishing, and for cleaning and passivating stainless steel. It’s also used in nitration, dye intermediates, fertilizer production and nylon precursors.

Q: What does Lab/Technical Grade mean, and is it suitable for analytical work? A: Lab/Technical Grade is the grade named in the product title. The page lists analytical chemistry as a use, but it doesn’t show ACS, USP or other standards, so review the Technical Data Sheet if your method requires one.

Q: What sizes are available, and does it ship as hazmat? A: It comes in a 500 ml size, a 2.5 L size, a 6 x 500 ml case, a 4 x 2.5 L case and a pallet. Yes, it ships as hazmat, and the page lists the DOT line as “DOT: Nitric acid, 8, UN2031, PG II,”. A hazmat fee applies.

Q: How do I get the SDS and Certificate of Analysis? A: Open the Product Manuals section on this page for the Safety Data Sheet and Technical Data Sheet. Certificates of Analysis sit in the next sub tab, listed by lot number, so pick the one that matches your lot.

Q: How should it be stored? A: Follow the Safety Data Sheet, and read our guide on How to Store Nitric Acid before your order arrives. Your own safety team should sign off on the storage setup too.

Q: What concentration is this nitric acid? A: The product title lists it as a 67% solution. Each Certificate of Analysis shows results for a specific lot, so check the one that matches your order.

Q: Does it come with allergen, BPA and PFAS statements? A: Yes. Product Manuals includes an Allergen Statement, BPA Statement, PFAS/PFOS Free Statement, Non-Irradiation Statement, TSE/BSE Declaration and No Animal Testing Declaration.

Q: How is this different from other nitric acid on the site? A: We carry other nitric acid options. The Types of Nitric Acid guide explains how they differ, and the nitric acid category page lists the full range.
