Details
Isopropyl Alcohol 70% Lab Grade
Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) at the 70% concentration is the most common concentration sold in stores as rubbing alcohol . This product contains 70% isopropyl alcohol 30% distilled water. The combination of alcohol and water makes this an ideal solution for cleaning against microbial bacteria, fungi, and viruses. The water acts as a catalyst for denaturing proteins and penetrating cell membranes, because of the higher water content it doesn’t vaporize as readily as higher concentrations giving it more time to make contact with the surface. Lab grade chemicals are high quality but unlike the ACS/USP grade the exact impurities are unknown making these great for lab and research purposes but not pure enough for food or medicinal uses.
Examples of when Isopropyl Alcohol 70% is the preferred concentration.
IPA 70% is the most effective concentration for cleaning against bacteria, fungi and viruses and it is more effective than 99.8% or 91% IPA .
IPA 70% is used widely to sanitize surfaces .
For electronics, extractions of oils, and additional cosmetic uses Isopropyl Alcohol 70% ACS/USP grade could be the effective proportion.
Isopropyl Alcohol 70% Lab Grade is a liquid blend of 70% isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and 30% distilled water. The CAS number is 67-63-0, and the assay runs 68.0 to 72.0%. It’s the same strength you’ll see in stores as rubbing alcohol. Lab Grade means the exact impurities aren’t known, so it suits laboratory and research work but isn’t pure enough for food or medicinal uses. Because it holds more water than higher strength IPA, it doesn’t vaporize as readily. The paperwork is right on the page. Product Manuals list the Safety Data Sheet, Technical Data Sheet and statements on allergens, BPA, GMO, nano particles, irradiation, PFAS/PFOS, phthalates and TSE/BSE, plus a manufacturing process flow chart. Certificates of Analysis are listed by lot.
You’ll use 70% IPA for laboratory and research work, from routine bench cleaning to everyday solvent tasks. The usual headache is getting the right strength, the right size and the right paperwork all at once. A supplier that can’t ship hazmat or hand over a Safety Data Sheet slows your whole day. Sizes run from a 500ml bottle to 270 gallons, plus cases and pallets, and the documents are available instantly on this page. Hazmat handling is covered from start to finish. Your plan is simple: choose a size, set up Autoship if you reorder often, or request a quote. On budget, on time, every time. Request your quote here .

Q: What is Isopropyl Alcohol 70% Lab Grade used for? A: It’s used in laboratory and research work, including general cleaning around the lab. It’s the same 70% strength sold in stores as rubbing alcohol, but this version is Lab Grade, so keep it to lab use.
Q: What does Lab Grade mean, and is it suitable for lab work? A: Lab Grade means a high quality material where the exact impurities aren’t known. That makes it a good fit for laboratory and research purposes. It isn’t pure enough for food or medicinal uses.
Q: What sizes are available, and does it ship as hazmat? A: You can choose 500ml, 1L, 1Gal, 4L, 5Gal, 20L, 55Gal or 270Gal, plus cases and pallets. The Safety and Shipping tab lists the DOT line as “DOT: Isopropanol, 3, UN1219, PG II”, and orders in the United States ship by UPS.
Q: How do I get the SDS and Certificate of Analysis? A: Open the Product Manuals section on this page for the Safety Data Sheet, the Technical Data Sheet and the Certificates of Analysis listed by lot.
Q: How should it be stored? A: Read the Safety Data Sheet first, then see our guide, How to Store Isopropanol .
Q: What is the concentration of this product? A: It’s 70% isopropyl alcohol and 30% distilled water, with an assay of 68.0 to 72.0%.
Q: How is 70% different from higher strength IPA? A: The higher water content means 70% IPA doesn’t vaporize as readily as higher concentrations. Choose the strength your method calls for.
